Ram 1500 REV Welcomes Back the Premium ‘Tungsten’ Trim
Tungsten Returns for the First Time Since 2018...
Robert S. Miller

The full-size ultra-premium luxury pickup market continues to grow as truck manufacturers continue to see who can build the most luxurious offering out there. Trucks like the Ford F-150 Limited, GMC Sierra Denali Ultimate, Silverado High Country, and Toyota Tundra Capstone are becoming increasingly popular as people move away from luxury cars and into pickup trucks. So you can find every amenity available packaged into these full-size family haulers.

This week Ram revealed its new Ram 1500 REV battery-electric vehicle (BEV)at the 2023 New York International Auto Show (NYIAS). It wore a “Tungsten” trim badge when it rolled onto the stage. Currently, the Limited model is the most premium offering you can purchase in the Ram half-ton lineup. But the Tungsten name might sound familiar to those diehard Ram fans who pay attention.

In 2017, Ram introduced the Tungsten trim as an extension of its Limited trim for the 2018 model year. Available for only a single model year, the 2018 Ram 1500, 2500, and 3500 Limited Tungsten Edition trucks added premium content such as a Light Greystone suede headliner and ultra-premium “Natura Plus” Frost and Indigo-colored premium leather throughout the cabin, including the seats, instrument panel, steering wheel, center arm rest and doors. Tungsten models also featured Indigo-colored carpets with rubber floormats and snap-out Frost and Indigo carpeted inserts. In addition, natural wood interior components and unique badges complete the first-tier trim.

As Ram’s halo model for the year, each Limited Tungsten Edition truck received a Tungsten Chrome grille with large R-A-M lettering (modeled after the Limited); Ram 1500 units added a Sport Performance Hood to the body-color matched bumpers, mirrors, and door handles and running boards. Headlamps featured a Black surround borrowed from the Sport model. Across the back, body-colored “R-A-M” letters covered the tailgate with Tungsten Chrome accents and badging. At the same time, a unique Satin-painted set of Limited wheels completed the exterior look.

Ram 1500 Limited Tungsten Edition models were also equipped with air suspension, an 8.4-inch Uconnect 4C touchscreen with navigation, remote start, a backup camera, power-adjustable pedals with memory, a heated steering wheel, front ventilated, and heated seats.

So Why Tungsten? –

Tungsten is considered a rare metal and is known as one of the toughest things found in nature. The dense, heavy metal has the highest melting point of all the elements and is harder than steel. So Ram said, “What better material to describe Ram’s highest trim?”

The new Ram 1500 REV Tungsten trim looks to give customers an ultra-premium experience while staying true to the hardworking nature of the Ram 1500.

Tungsten’s Indigo/Sea Salt interior includes new platinum patina/semi-bright dual-textured metal accents featuring diamond knurling, suede-wrapped headliner, A- and B-pillars and visors, and heated and ventilated premium quilted leather driver and front passenger seats with 24-way power, including memory settings and a massage function, power lumbar support and four-way powered headrests.

Other features that give Tungsten a well-crafted, high-quality feel and appearance include a Tungsten badge on the center console featuring inlaid lettering and diamond knurling, which also proudly displays the vehicle identification number or VIN, brushed platinum patina aluminum litho bezels, a unique shifter center cap, an ultra-premium Klipsch Reference Premiere audio system with 23 speakers, all-new dual wireless chargers, and a metal pedal kit.

So it looks like the Tungsten name will return as the crown jewel of the Ram stable once it hits the street. Let’s hope it will stick around for more than a single model year this time.
